Novel entitled Dari Tanah Tepi by Wisran Hadi is novel about a trip to the Holy City of Mecca with all the trials that passed. Besides that, this novel reveals social critic delivered which the author through this literature. The study approach is sociology of literature, examines the relationship between literature and society, how those relationship happens and its impact. This study is conducted to identify the intrinsic element of a novel and to reveal the social critic in novel and find the study implication for the learning of Indonesian Language and Literature.
Critic in this novel is to reflect the social life of Indonesian Muslims in general, they who cannot differentiate which is included in Islamic teachings and which is Arab culture. Besides that, general criticism in daily life, such as critic Indonesian false, simple way of thinking, includes a mosque used as place to sleep, the usage of mosque loudspeaker, the undemocratic way of praying, make tomb sacred, exaggerating their status as Hajj.
Intrinsic analysis and social critic in novel entitled Dari Tanah Tepi can be implicate on the learning of Indonesian Language and Literature Senior High School/Madrasah Aliyah class XI, with the standard of competency to understand the structures and rules of the novel text both written or orally and analyze novel text both written and orally. Students can analyze novel text either written or orally and explore a positive values contained in this novel.
